Why I'm Running

My name is Victoria May Garcia

I'm running because I believe public service should be about people—not politics. It should be about listening to our communities, understanding the challenges families face, and working together to find practical solutions.

District 48 is made up of communities with deep roots, strong families, hardworking people, and a tremendous sense of community. I'm running because I believe the people of District 48 deserve a representative who will listen, show up, and work for them.

Throughout my life and my work, I've had the opportunity to work closely with seniors, families, caregivers, and people who depend on our community services. Those experiences have taught me something very important: sometimes the biggest challenge isn't that help doesn't exist. It's that navigating the system can be difficult, confusing, and overwhelming.

That is something I want to help change.

I want to be a voice for our seniors, because they deserve dignity, protection, and respect. We need to continue addressing elder abuse and financial exploitation while making sure seniors and their families can understand and access the services available to them.

I also want to support the caregivers—the sons, daughters, spouses, grandchildren, and professionals who dedicate themselves every day to caring for someone they love.

And I want to make sure our children and families have opportunities to grow, succeed, and build their futures right here in New Mexico.

One of my priorities is bringing resources together so families don't have to spend hours going from one agency to another trying to figure out where to turn. We need systems that are easier to understand and easier to navigate.

But this campaign isn't just about the issues that matter to me.

It's about listening to the people of District 48.

I want to hear from parents.

I want to hear from seniors.

I want to hear from working families.

I want to hear from small-business owners.

I want to hear from our veterans, caregivers, educators, and young people.

Because the people who live here understand our communities better than anyone sitting behind a desk.

I also believe that leadership means showing up.

It means knocking on doors. It means having conversations. It means listening to concerns—even when those concerns are difficult—and then going to work.

I don't believe we have to agree on everything to work together.

We can have different backgrounds. We can have different political views. We can disagree on individual issues. But we can still agree that the people of District 48 deserve honest representation, accountability, and someone who will listen.

That's the kind of representative I want to be.

I am not running because I think I have all the answers.

I'm running because I am willing to listen, learn, work, and advocate.

I believe New Mexico has tremendous strength in its people. And I believe District 48 has that strength in abundance.

We have families who have been here for generations. We have young people with incredible potential. We have seniors whose wisdom and life experiences are invaluable. And we have neighbors who continue to take care of one another.

That spirit is worth protecting.

As this campaign moves forward, I don't want this to be a campaign that only talks at people.

I want it to be a campaign that talks with people.

So I invite you to talk to me.

Tell me what is working.

Tell me what isn't.

Tell me what you want to see changed—and tell me what you want to protect.

Because ultimately, this campaign isn't about one person.

It's about the people of District 48.

It's about building communities where our seniors are protected, our families are supported, our children have opportunities, and every person has a voice.

I'm asking for your support, your ideas, and your trust as we move forward.

My name is Victoria May Garcia, and I'm running for the New Mexico House of Representatives in District 48 because I believe our communities deserve someone who will show up, listen, and work.

And most importantly, thank you for caring about the future of District 48 and the great state of New Mexico.

God bless you, God bless our families, and God bless New Mexico.
